My name is Tanner Barnharst (he/they) and I study lichens and mushrooms. I live in Minneapolis, MN, and travel the area visiting parks, forests, and natural areas looking for fungus!

I am a Minnesota Master Naturalist (’22) and a member of the Minnesota Mycological Society since 2021. I have a BS in microbiology and an MS in environmental engineering from the University of Minnesota. I enjoy teaching and spending time outdoors and like to do both as often as I can.
I recently published the Minnesota Lichen Guide in print and online free PDF. The book is available at my teaching events and will soon be available for purchase through my website.

I am open to doing lichen talks and workshops within the Minnesota and Wisconsin area. Email me at MidwestMycologist@gmail.com or LichenGuideMN@Gmail.com. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to connect!
